Luhrs Building, Phoenix: New Photos

Completed in 1923 and built by George Luhrs Senior, the Trost & Trost designed Luhrs Building stands today as the most dignified and iconic of downtown Phoenix buildings. In an era of massive renovation and renewal of PHX's downtown district, the wrecking ball has had its way to clear the path for a large number of gorgeous, yet modern, skyscrapers. Nevertheless, the two Luhrs properties, both in the same block, have been treated to complete restorations by owners The Hansji Company. The Luhrs Tower, which draws more attention the the Building, stretches its "New Chicago School" architectural style to the sky. (What?? "New Chicago School"?? See Louis Sullivan's comments on this style in Mark Stone's Trost Society article at https://www.facebook.com/TrostSociety/posts/2990327887751924).

Nevertheless, the Gentleman on the block, the most distinguished building at the party, is the Luhrs Building. Today I was able to shoot some fresh images of this amazing accomplishment. A Romanesque and Italianate eclectic blend, this building enchants. Enjoy the photos!
